Nelly Furtado, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ayi Jihu add star power to Native American Music Awards

When Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel proudly hosts the Native American Music Awards for the sixth consecutive year this Friday, it will also be the site for some serious star power. International superstars Nelly Furtado, Rickey Medlocke of Lynyrd Skynyrd and China's Ayi Jihu will be among the awardees and award presenters during a 14th annual awards show that was nearly cancelled due to "Superstorm" Sandy last fall.

The program commemorates a number of important moments in history: the founding of the Abolitionist movement in 1833, the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, the 100th anniversary of the passing of famed civil rights pioneer Harriet Tubman, and the importance of Western New York to the Underground Railroad.
