USA Hockey announced today the 42 players who will compete in the third annual CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game set for Sept. 25 at First Niagara Center, home to the NHL's Buffalo Sabres.
New York Power Authority energy-efficiency projects in first half of 2014 to save taxpayers $4 million annually

During the first half of 2014, the energy-efficiency projects completed by the New York Power Authority at public facilities in various parts of New York will result in a savings to taxpayers of $4 million annually.

Improving energy-efficiency and reducing demand on the electric power grid are critical elements to achieving goals championed by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo to create a more resilient and flexible power grid, lower the state's carbon footprint and promote a cleaner and healthier environment for all New Yorkers.

The NYPA-completed energy-efficiency projects, from January through June of this year, were undertaken at 100 state and municipal facilities.

Empire State Development approves $20 million to fund projects generating economic opportunity across New York

The Empire State Development board of directors met Wednesday in New York City and approved $20.4 million in funding for 30 projects that are spurring economic growth and opportunity in all 10 regions of New York. The projects will directly create 30 new jobs and enable the creation of hundreds more while also retaining more than 2,200 existing jobs.

These targeted investments will leverage more than $41.3 million in private and other public funding to support business expansions and regional tourism efforts, and projects designed to build a strong foundation for future economic growth and job creation.

Ceretto advocates for new multi-use arena in Niagara Falls

Assemblyman John Ceretto is advocating for the construction of a new convention center in downtown Niagara Falls. As ranking minority member of the Assembly Tourism Committee, Ceretto sees this convention center as crucial to bringing construction jobs to the region, and enhancing Niagara Falls' long-term status as a tourism hub in New York.

"Since becoming an assemblyman in 2010, continuing Niagara Falls' legacy as a tourist hotspot in our state has been a top priority of mine," Ceretto said. "Currently, our downtown lacks the type of major draw that would bring tourists and tourism dollars into the city during the cold-weather months. Building a convention center and multi-use arena in Niagara Falls would fill that void."

Walk to raise Alzheimer's awareness

The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research programs. Across Western New York, there are six such walks scheduled, including Sept. 27 in Lewiston with the first steps leaving from Artpark.
NCCC, faculty association reach tentative agreement
