Vehicle pursuit in Town of Niagara

On Thursday, July 23, 2026 at 1:45 p.m., the Town of Niagara Police Department was notified of a suspicious vehicle parked in the lot of the Fashion Outlets Mall on Military Road. Patrol observed a gray Hyundai Elantra with the driver side door open and the vehicle still running, unoccupied. Patrols conducted an investigation and were alerted that the vehicle had been rented upon fraudulent terms and the renter had active outstanding warrants out of multiple jurisdictions, including two bench warrants out of the Town of Niagara.

While patrols were still on scene, the male entered the vehicle and was positively identified as the male who had warrants. The subject then fled the scene northbound on Military Road and patrols pursued. The suspect fled into Lewiston and then onto the I-190 heading south in the northbound lanes, causing several near-head-on collisions. The suspect then crossed over onto the southbound lanes where the pursuit continued into Grand Island and finally coming to an end at the I-190/I-290 split in Tonawanda after the operator lost control of the vehicle.

The subject was taken into custody without further incident. The operator suffered minor injuries and was taken to ECMC for further evaluation.

The suspect will face a multitude of charges in the Town of Niagara court for unlawful fleeing, reckless operation, reckless endangerment, obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. Numerous vehicle and traffic violations will also be lodged against the suspect.

Assisting agencies were Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Lewiston Police Department, Town of Tonawanda Police, Erie County Sheriff’s Department and Grand Island Police Department.
