Presented by the Lewiston Garden Club, Lewiston GardenFest is celebrating 20 years on Saturday, June 20, and Sunday, June 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days along Center Street. The 20th annual festival features approximately 100 vendors selling flowers, plants, and garden essentials, along with open gardens, speakers, a container garden contest, and more throughout the weekend.

“Whether you’re a regular attendee or have never been, we’re inviting everyone to join us as we toast to our love of gardening and celebrate 20 years of Lewiston GardenFest,” said Mary Ann Yates, chair of Lewiston GardenFest. “From picking out flowers and plants to looking for new ideas you can adapt for your own green space, there’s everything garden all in one place!”

Festival attendees can visit several private gardens featured on a free garden walk throughout the weekend. The gardens vary in size and style, and are located both within walking distance, and a short drive from the festival. Maps of the open gardens can be picked up during the event at one of the hospitality booths.

Lewiston GardenFest also features a variety of speakers and master gardeners on hand throughout the weekend. Saturday’s speakers include David O’Donnell with Eastern Monarch Butterfly Farm at 11 a.m. presenting on “Protecting the Eastern Monarch Butterfly and its Habitat”; and Steve Styn, master rosarian from the Buffalo Rose Society at 1 p.m.

On Sunday at 1 p.m., Lyn Chimera will speak on “The What, Why and How of Native Plants.” Master gardeners from Cornell Cooperative Extension will be available in Hennepin Park to answer gardening questions and provide free soil sample analysis. In addition, the youngest gardeners can create decorations for their own gardens with make and take crafts while supplies last.

Gardeners of all ages and experience levels can also participate in the annual container garden contest. Prepare your arrangement in a traditional container or think outside the planter. Bring your container entry and a stand for display to Hennepin Park by 9 a.m. Saturday, June 20. Throughout the weekend, festival guests can vote for their favorite container garden. Prizes will be awarded to those containers that receive the most votes.

Lewiston GardenFest is free to attend and is sponsored by the Village of Lewiston, Town of Lewiston, DiMino’s Lewiston Tops, Lakeside Sod Supply Co., Inc., Modern Corporation, the Niagara County Legislature, Niagara Falls Bridge Commission, Northwest Bank, Wegmans, and various local businesses.

Proceeds from Lewiston GardenFest go toward Lewiston Garden Club beautification efforts and local youth scholarships. For more event details, visit lewistongardenfest.com.
