Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday urged New Yorkers statewide to take precautions ahead of potentially dangerous heat conditions that are expected to begin early Saturday and last through the weekend. Heat index values ranging from the low-90s to 100 degrees are possible throughout the entire timeframe and across much of the state. New Yorkers should monitor local weather forecasts for the most up-to-date information. World-class chef, cookbook author and philanthropist Robert Irvine has struck a new multiyear deal with Food Network, it was announced Friday by Courtney White, president of Food Network. This two-year deal includes new episodes of the long-running, hit show "Restaurant: Impossible," as well as additional content developed by Irvine across the Discovery portfolio, with mid- and short-form projects for both linear and digital platforms, including the Food Network Kitchen app.

Not many of us remember the "golden age of radio" (1930s to 1940s), but Don Lange, 37-year veteran of Buffalo radio does. Don began his radio career at the original WEBR radio in 1941, and was later promoted to chief engineer. He retired in 1978 ... and oh, the stories he can tell about old-time radio! Shortly after retiring, Don began the huge task of rebuilding the Wurlitzer organ at the Riviera Theater in North Tonawanda.

The New York State Department of Health and State Office for the Aging announced a five-point plan to help long-term-care residents and their families access services through the Office of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, provide additional resources to residents and families appealing involuntary discharges, expand the ombudsman volunteer program, "reimagine" a multiagency workgroup to enhance services, and provide up to $1 million in funding for long term care facilities to purchase tablets, webcams, headphones or other accessories to help residents stay connected with family and LTCOP during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.

In a conference call Thursday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said New Yorkers are "outraged" at bar and restaurant establishments where people are gathering together and not abiding by safety measures designed to limit the spread of the coronavirus. He said it is "a question of public health, and New Yorkers paid a dear price for COVID and they are equally upset with these violations."

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) on Wednesday announced more than $100 million in additional emergency food assistance for New Yorkers adversely affected by the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. About 700,000 low-income individuals and families enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive the maximum allowable benefit for July to help them avoid food insecurity.
