Ortt to attend White House

On Thursday, New York State Sen. Rob Ortt will attend the White House as a guest for a special conference that is being coordinated by the White House's office of intergovernmental affairs. This event will examine how veterans and their families are currently supported through state and federal government relationships.

"The Big Easy in Buffalo" announced its new status for 2019 as a not-for-profit organization under the direction of founder Tod A. Kniazuk. It also announced its 12th annual "Mardi Gras Jam" will take place Febr. 13 at Buffalo Iron Works with New Orleans headlining band Galactic. A local opener and community activities will soon be announced.
St. Francis Guild hosts memorial Mass

AAA projects 54.3 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more away from home this Thanksgiving, a 4.8 percent increase over last year. The 2018 holiday weekend will see the highest Thanksgiving travel volume in more than a dozen years (since 2005), with 2.5 million more people taking to the nation's roads, skies, rails and waterways compared with last year.

Applications for Home Energy Assistance Program ("HEAP") regular benefits will be accepted beginning Tuesday, Nov. 13 - and Erie County's Department of Social Services ("DSS") anticipates receiving high numbers. The HEAP program is scheduled to run through March 31, 2019, but households are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later. Last season, more than 90,000 households in Erie County received benefits.

Village of Lewiston seeks to develop Academy Park; Peach Festival likely to move

Village of Lewiston Mayor Anne Welch on Monday unveiled a conceptual plan to revitalize Academy Park. Proposed improvements would allow the municipality's most prominent green space to be used year-round.As a result, the Niagara County Peach Festival would need a new home. Welch and the Board of Trustees discussed this with members of the Lewiston Kiwanis Club, who run the annual event.
