EPA: $17.7 million in grants to support water systems in rural & small communities

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently announced the availability of $17.7 million in grant funding for technical assistance and training providers to support small drinking water and wastewater systems that are often located in rural communities across the U.S. EPA's funding will improve public health and environmental protection by helping to ensure drinking water in these communities is safe and that wastewater is treated before it is responsibly returned to the environment.

USDA to conduct 2020 local food marketing practices survey

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will conduct the 2020 local food marketing practices survey, beginning in January 2021. First conducted in 2015, this census of agriculture special study will look at local and regional food systems and provide new data on how locally grown and sold foods in the U.S. are marketed. The results will be available in November 2021.
Cuomo to decide if more micro-cluster zones are necessary

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced the majority of the office's staff will not report in-person for work effective Thursday. The Erie County District Attorney's Office made the decision, in consultation with Erie County and its Department of Health, in an effort to reduce the number of employees inside the buildings and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday updated New Yorkers on the state's vaccination distribution plan as the FDA is expected to authorize Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine this week. The state's vaccination distribution effort will focus on battling skepticism, include outreach to Black, brown and poor communities, as well as expedited distribution and administration. New York could receive its initial allocation of 170,000 vaccines as soon as this weekend, and expects further allocations in the following weeks.
