Though much of next week's forecast shows rain, it looks like the sun will shine Saturday, May 3, when Community Missions Inc. hosts its annual Walk for Niagara at Whirlpool State Park.
Around 200 walkers are expected to attend the event, rain or shine, to raise awareness and funds for Niagara County's underserved population.

Fox Broadcasting Company announced today that Sprint and the Chrysler brand will serve as official sponsors of this season's most anticipated event series, "24: Live Another Day." The iconic pulse-pounding clock resets when "24" premieres with a special two-hour television event Monday, May 5 (8 p.m.), and makes its time period premiere the following week, on Monday, May 12 (9 p.m.), on FOX.

In a shocking turn of events Wednesday, the Lewiston Democratic Party candidates appointed to run in the June 17 Village of Lewiston election were ruled ineligible. Village Clerk Anne Welch disqualified mayoral candidate Jamie Symmonds and trustee candidate Jacqueline Lampman on the grounds their party failed to adhere to state election law.
Section 15-108(2)(c) states "Notice must be filed in the offices of the village clerk and the county board of elections at least 10 days before the scheduled caucus."
Welch said she did not receive notice from the Democrats of their caucus, which was held Tuesday, nor was a public announcement posted in her office.

Jamie Symmonds will represent the party in the June 17 election. She was nominated during Tuesday's Democratic Party caucus.
