Gates officially close on record-breaking 180th Erie County Fair

The all-time attendance record for the Erie County Fair was shattered as the "Best 12 Days of Summer" in Western New York concluded Sunday night. Final 2019 attendance is 1,238,456. This number represents a 3.3% increase from 2018 and makes 2019's number the highest attended County Fair in the history of the Erie County Agricultural Society. The previous all-time record was achieved in 2014 (1,220,101).
Rob Ortt declares for NY-27

Today, Bronze Star recipient and New York State Sen. Rob Ortt (R-C-I-Ref-North Tonawanda) declared his candidacy for New York's 27th Congressional District. At an event at the VFW Post 2535 in Lockport, Ortt delivered a speech that outlined his experiences as a soldier - in Afghanistan and defending the U.S. Southern border - his service as a state senator, and his campaign platform as a congressional candidate.

Tonight, Tonny takes one last spin on the Erie County Fair track as he looks death in the face once again, to perform one of his most famous stunts. The Erie County Fair welcomes Petersen, the "Last of the Legendary Hell Drivers," as part of the 2019 edition of the "Ultimate Night of Destruction" at 7 p.m.

Old Fort Niagara is hosting its final reenactment of the season, the "War of 1812 Encampment," on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, at the National Historic Landmark in Youngstown. This encampment portrays the British attack on Fort Niagara during the American occupation in December 1813, and includes a special evening battle and daily activities for all.

This single day milestone was just one day of a record-breaking opening weekend in Hamburg, as the Strates Shows celebrates its 95th year providing the amusements at the Erie County Fair. Gross revenues for the Strates Shows midway are trending 25% over 2018 number.
