The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance on Sunday announced the start of the 2024 income tax filing season. The Tax Department and the IRS will begin processing income tax returns on Monday, Jan. 29. The deadline to file returns and pay any tax owed (or request an extension of time to file) is midnight on April 15.

Manslaughter leads to 17-year prison term

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Michael Hamilton, age 38, of Niagara Falls, was sentenced this morning to a term of 17 years in State Prison. Hamilton pled guilty in November of last year to manslaughter in the first degree for the death of Jason Chapman on Pine Ave in Niagara Falls on July 12, 2022.
