Niagara County Legislature update on meetings

On Wednesday afternoon, Niagara County Public Information Officer Kevin Schuler emailed and wrote, "The Niagara County Legislature held committee meetings on April 13, 2020. These meetings were conducted via video conference per the Governor's Executive Orders that provided some flexibility for public meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic."

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo today announced a three-way agreement with the Legislature on a bill guaranteeing job protection and pay for New Yorkers who have been quarantined as a result of novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. The program bill also includes the permanent comprehensive paid sick leave policy first advanced in the governor's FY 2021 executive budget proposal.

The Niagara County Legislature is expected to take up four resolutions tonight directed squarely at New York's Article 10 law, which involves the siting of electric generating facilities in this state. The law, which legislators said took away local control over siting decision and instead gave control to the Board of Electric Generation Siting and the Environment, has become a source of controversy as large wind and solar developers have descended on Niagara County to site their facilities.
