Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center has been listed as a "Five Star Hospital" and "Community Value 100" in the Cleverly + Associates' 2011 Community Value Index. Mount St. Mary's was evaluated along with thousands of other health care facilities in four key areas: financial viability, costs, charges and quality performance.

Masonic safety ID program at Olde Sanborn Days

Niagara River Lodge No. 785, of F. and A. Masons, is sponsoring a free Safety ID booth at the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Co. firehouse during the Olde Sanborn Days. The booth will be open on Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The program is not only for children, but open to guests of all ages.

County Health Department updates on rabies scare

As a follow-up to its warning of last week about possible rabid animals on Tonawanda Island in the City of North Tonawanda, the Niagara County Department of Health reports that the New York State Department of Health's Wadsworth Rabies Laboratory has confirmed that rabies was not present in the two woodchucks tested. However, all Niagara County residents are encouraged to take precautions against rabies exposure from wild and stray animals and to assure that their pets are vaccinated against this potential lethal disease.

ABC has licensed its iconic soaps, "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" to Prospect Park. The exclusive multi-year, multi-platform deal enables the soaps' stories to continue beyond their finale dates on ABC. ABC will broadcast its final episode of "All My Children" on Friday, Sept. 23, and will air the final episode of "One Life to Live" in January 2012.

At stake? Five large Gs as the second annual "Battle at the Border" took center stage. The second highest car count of the season provided plenty of racing action throughout the four divisions of Modifieds, Sportsman, Streetstocks and 4 Bangers.
