On Thursday, Sept. 29, the Lewiston-Porter boys varsity soccer team will conduct a canned food drive to benefit the Ransomville Community Services Food Pantry. All fans attending the game are encouraged to bring at least one non-perishable food item with them that evening. Donation bins will be placed outside the main gates at Elia Stadium prior to the 6:30 p.m. game versus Kenmore West.

There was a familiar face on the opening of Season 3 of NBC's show "The Sing-Off" on Monday night.
Michael Pittman, a 2009 Niagara-Wheatfield graduate, is now a junior at the University of Rochester and a member of it's a cappella group the YellowJackets. The group opened the show, and was not one of the two groups voted off, so local fans can catch them (and Michael) again on the Oct. 3 show. The Sept. 26 show features the second half of the competitors.

Assemblyman John Ceretto, R-I-Lewiston, and Niagara County Legislator Renae Kimble, D-Niagara Falls, today took the New York Power Authority to task for raising utility rates on local residents and businesses. Ceretto and Kimble noted that the latest round of rate increases comes after a $550 million debit of NYPA's finances in the 2010-11 state budget deal, a bill which neither public official voted for. The pair also emphasized the urgent need for local representation on the NYPA board of trustees.
