On Friday, employees of the Erie County Agricultural Society gathered to publically thank Western New York for being named the 11th largest fair in North America (and fourth-largest county fair) according to a ranking recently published by CarnivalWarehouse.com. The ranking includes all county and state fairs, exhibitions, livestock and rodeo shows in the U.S. and Canada.

'NORAD Tracks Santa' program a record-breaking success

The North American Aerospace Defense Command's "NORAD Tracks Santa" program exceeded its own records in the number of calls, emails and social media followers this year. The program, which began after a misprinted ad in a local paper in 1955, has more than 1,200 volunteers and NORAD staff answering queries on the location of Santa Claus as he circles the globe delivering presents.

The following incidents occurred from Dec. 9 to 15, as reported by the Grand Island Fire Co. A total of 29 calls were answered by the department during this period. The GIFC has now responded to 1,361 calls so far this year. (The GIFC responded to 1,391 calls in 2012.)
