Samantha Tremko lost her mom suddenly when she was just 7 years old.
Her family was just settling down from a family vacation in Florida, making the long drive home to North Tonawanda. After dropping grandparents off at their home, Samantha's mom, Robin, suffered a blood clot to the heart.
Samantha's whole world suddenly changed.

The official numbers from the Youngstown Village elections trustee and mayoral races are in. Raleigh Reynolds succeeded in winning his first full term as mayor, with 328 votes, 72 more than Republican mayoral nominee Norman Swann.

With just over 1,300 voters coming out to cast their ballot, the Lewiston Porter School District $41.2 million spending plan was passed. The vote, unofficial and without absentee votes counted, was 926 in favor, and 439 against.

The following incidents occurred from May 5 to 11, as reported by the Grand Island Fire Co. A total of 29 calls were answered by the department during this period. The GIFC has now responded to 505 calls so far this year. At this point in 2013, the GIFC had responded to 471 calls.

The New York State Department of Transportation today announced the Robert Moses State Parkway northbound exit ramp to NY Route 93 in the Town of Porter is scheduled to be closed to all traffic Monday, June 2, from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. This closure is necessary to conduct guiderail replacement. A posted detour route will be in place to direct traffic.

The 2014 season started locally on May 15, which, in comparison to last year's April 1 opening date, is a significant delay.
In celebration of the beginning of the season, Anchor Marine, located at 1501 Ferry Road on Grand Island, is holding an open house Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well as Sunday, June 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Unofficial results had just been announced that voters approved the $64.6 million N-W budget for 2014-15 by a vote of 2,559 to 1,528, despite an expected 4.78 percent increase in the tax levy (right at the district's tax cap).
