'Win it for Ziggy': Niagara-Wheatfield hockey ready for state tournament

The Niagara-Wheatfield hockey team is playing some of their best hockey at the right time. Winners of six straight, the Falcons are looking to make a push for their first state championship in school history.

The 12th annual Art of Beer, a culinary fundraiser for the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center, took place Friday at 1201 Pine Ave., Niagara Falls. Local business owners and chefs donated 100 percent of their products and services to support the NACC.

It's been a very tough week for the Niagara-Wheatfield community. On Wednesday, students, faculty, friends and family received tragic news that Michael Ziegler; a student at Niagara-Wheatfield High School and a member of the Falcons football, wrestling and lacrosse teams, tragically passed away.

The Grand Island Rotary Club meat raffle fundraiser on March 3 sold out the Knights of Columbus Star of the Sea Council Hall on Whitehaven Road. The event, in support of the Growing Readers program in the Grand Island Central School District, saw participants bidding on meat packages and putting tickets in raffles.

Niagara County Builders reveal name change, strategic plan

The Niagara County Builders Association is set to reveal a new name, a new direction and a new perspective on the construction industry in Niagara on March 14 at G-Mac's in Sanborn. The association has been in Niagara County since 1943 as a chapter of the National Association of Home Builders. The organization will still be a chapter of NAHB under the new name Niagara Region Construction Alliance.

Niagara-Wheatfield HS holds basketball game for Bald for Bucks

Tuesday night a couple thousand people gathered at the Niagara-Wheatfield gym for a basketball game between the Niagara-Wheatfield faculty and the Buffalo Sabres Alumni. The evening was more than a fun pickup game, though, as proceeds from the game benefitted the Bald for Bucks association in honor of the late James Campbell, who passed away in August due to cancer.
