Deal Realty celebrated its 10-year anniversary with an open house last week at its office at 451 Center St., Lewiston. Clients, family and friends joined in the celebration, and were the first to witness the unveiling of a special logo commemorating the real estate brokerage's 10th year of serving clients and creating fans throughout Western New York.

It was almost two years ago - as the Hard Rock Cafe, Niagara Falls USA, was celebrating its 20th anniversary - that Richard Sargent first told this news outlet of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame's desire to bring its Musician Medics program to Niagara Falls. The local rock 'n' roll stars sought to pay it forward in the Cataract City - but there was a roadblock: funding.

The Rotary Club of Niagara County Central completed its 12th annual gifting of dictionaries to third-grade students in the Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District. Rotarian, the late Joseph B. Emmons, began this project locally in 2006. Emmons' wife, Rotarian Marsha Emmons, proudly continues his worthwhile endeavor to bring the keepsakes of written knowledge to the students.

The inspirational song "Shine," written by two student survivors of the tragic mass shooting at Parkland Florida's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, was released today and features members of the school drama department. The powerful song has emerged as an anthem of the student-led movement to end gun violence, written by students Sawyer Garrity, 16, and Andrea Peña, 15, just days after the Feb. 14 tragedy that claimed 17 lives and wounded many others.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Wednesday announced cashless tolling will go live at the Grand Island toll barriers on Thursday, March 29 (weather-dependent). As of the morning commute on Friday, March 30, the toll plazas at the north and south Grand Island bridges will no longer accept cash payment.

The average Lake Ontario outflow during the month of February was the highest in recorded history. Historical records start in 1900 and include outflows that occurred both prior to and since the beginning of regulation in 1960. A stable ice cover in the St. Lawrence River allowed Plan 2014 to increase outflow under the ice, and, as a result, Lake Ontario levels have fallen below those recorded at this time in 2017.
