Niagara Frontier Industry Education Council and Orleans/Niagara BOCES are teaming up this summer to offer a learning experience for students entering fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade. Both the Medina and Sanborn Career and technical education centers will offer a variety of three daylong camps running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns, The Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo & WNY, New York State Parks and five superintendents from Erie County school districts have announced the first "HDI Parks Clean-Up Day." The collaborative effort between the five school districts is part of Kearns' "Healthy District" initiative.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation advised that, although the state's ban on brush burning ended May 14, several open burning regulations are still in effect across New York year-round. Residents are encouraged to use caution when burning brush and other legal materials.

It took four years to review and then finally approve Ellicott Development's plan to build a plaza on 4.1 acres of land bordering Center, North Eighth and Onondaga streets. Trustees in the Village of Lewiston are hoping it won't take that long so see the development built and open to the public.

Baseball is a weird game where one day you can manage 10 runs as a team and the next day you get shutout. For the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons, they came into their Section VI Class AA semifinal battle versus No. 7 Williamsville North red-hot, winning their last nine games. Unfortunately, good things come to an end and the No. 3 Falcons were defeated by the Spartans, 3-2.

It's been about seven years since Niagara-Wheatfield softball coach Jim Proefrock could say his team was heading to the big game. Proefrock breathed a sigh of relief Thursday night, as the Falcons defeated the Williamsville North Spartans, 8-4, in the Section VI Class AA semifinals.

Chief Petty Officer David Vendetti is a fire controlman assigned to DDG 116 in Bath, Maine. As a fire controlman, Vendetti is responsible for training and the professional development of junior sailors.
