YMCA Buffalo Niagara is offering 1,500 free swim classes to kids throughout Western New York, thanks to a new grant from the statewide NY SWIMS initiative. Through this effort, the Y is providing free swim lessons and water safety education to Western New York children, regardless of their family's ability to pay.

At the June 8 public hearing on the second proposed school budget, held at Grand Island High School, the issues raised from the 17 community members who spoke included tax increases, the reserve fund, the opportunity for outside groups to use school facilities, messaging on social media, electric school buses, additional budget cuts in the event of a contingent budget, communication issues, the distance that buses travel to take children to special education programs, and financial pressures on the community.

The Riviera Theatre & Organ Preservation Society Inc. announced a grant award totaling $781,000 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the organization's phase 2 of the Riviera expansion project (new dressing rooms). This grant is part of a capital project funding announcement by NYSCA, which totals over $82 million to 132 arts and culture facilities across New York.
