HAL welcomes John Zach and 'History of WNY Radio & Television'

The Historical Association of Lewiston will present "History of WNY Radio & Television." John Zach, author and WBEN 930-AM radio host, will present the history of the local broadcasting industry. The event will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah, 915 Oneida St., Lewiston.

Due to the two days of inclement weather preventing thousands from enjoying the 2015 Niagara County Peach Festival at Academy Park last weekend, Amusements of America Ride Co. has agreed to allow discount pre-sale tickets purchased for the 2015 festival to be used at the 2016 Peach Festival.

History was made Sunday night, at the end of the 58th annual Niagara County Peach Festival, as Lindsey Clark was named Peach Queen. She will receive a $4,000 college scholarship, courtesy of the Lewiston Kiwanis Club.

In drawings submitted Thursday to the Village of Lewiston, portions of Ellicott Development's proposed plaza have changed significantly. The northern building, No. 3, is now a two-story unit. The third floor is gone and, instead of 26 apartment units spread over two floors, the sketch calls for 13 two-bedroom dwellings on the second floor.

The Mighty Niagara Half Marathon has gone global. Runners from countries around the world including England, Ireland, Mexico, Germany, Austria and Ethiopia, will soon travel to Western New York to "run with the river" in this one-of-a-kind race that has grown tremendously since its 2009 inception.
