Seneca Nation to host World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Charitable Golf Tournament

The Seneca Nation is hosting a two-day event of fun and camaraderie to support an important cause. Funds from the World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Charitable Golf Tournament, on Aug. 7-8 at Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Course in Lewiston and Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino in Niagara Falls, will support the fourth World Indigenous Suicide Prevention Conference. The Seneca Nation will host the conference in July 2024, marking the first time it will be held in the U.S.

Lewiston Police Department investigating fatal MVA

On Friday, Chief Frank Previte was patrolling in the area of Creek Road and Jeffersons Way when he observed a motor vehicle accident involving a car and a motorcycle. First aid was immediately started with the help of a nearby resident. The driver of the motorcycle, a Ransomville resident, was treated by Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1 and transported to ECMC.

On Wednesday, Village of Lewiston Mayor Anne Welch informed the Niagara County Tribune/Sentinel of residential reports of the return of the box tree moth. She said she's seen trees turned brown as a result of the noisome nuisance.

Seven members of the Youngstown Lions Club recently volunteered their Saturday to serve and help with up to 30 Lions from other Western New York clubs at the Lions pop-up eyeglass clinic held at the Community Health Center in Niagara Falls. This successful community event, organized by Lion Rob Nichols and sponsored by the Niagara Falls Community Lions, required no age limit, ID, or proof of income.

Motor-vehicle crash in Porter

On Saturday, June 3, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications center received a 911 call reporting a single motor-vehicle accident into a barn in the area of Braley Road and Dickersonville Road in the Town of Porter. Before deputies arrived on scene, the single male occupant was able to extricate himself from the vehicle and walk out of the semi-demolished barn.

He said the idea for "...Not Always Homeless" came to him as he would see homeless individuals in and around his hometown of Niagara Falls. Loss knew they were not always homeless, so he decided to write a book about them.
