The Niagara County Legislature on Tuesday night passed a resolution extending the deadline for payment of county taxes without interest and penalties until May 31. The resolution passed unanimously.

M&T Bank and KeyBank, in partnership with the First Niagara Foundation, have teamed up with Pegula Sports & Entertainment in its direct community aid initiative. PSE began the initiative March 25 in partnership with the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres Foundations. Together, the companies will provide $540,000 to aid front-line workers at Kaleida Health, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) in the local fight against COVID-19.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today is granting public housing authorities (PHA), Indian tribes and tribally designated housing entities (TDHEs) waiver authorities and ultimate flexibilities so agency staff can focus on assisting their tenants and properties during the COVID-19 pandemic. HUD's Office of Public and Indian Housing provides housing assistance to approximately 3.5 million families across the country.

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz on Tuesday issued a local emergency order closing all campgrounds, as defined by 10 NYCRR 7-3.1, which require a permit to operate under the New York state sanitary code. The order also prohibits the use, at any campground within Erie County, of any camping cabin, camping unit, campsite, or seasonal campsite as defined by 10 NYCRR 7-3.1, by any individual at any time.

Rapid testing at Father Baker Manor identifies COVID-19 cases

Catholic Health received more than 900 COVID-19 rapid test kits from Cepheid Inc. last Friday, making it possible for the health system to quickly test and contain the spread of the coronavirus at Father Baker Manor in Orchard Park. In all, Catholic Health performed 600 tests throughout its system in just over one day, increasing total testing within Erie Country by 29%.

NCSO officer tests positive for COVID-19

This individual, who has been off work for the past two weeks after developing symptoms relating to the virus, is recovering at home. This is the first employee with the NCSO diagnosed with COVID-19.
