The Niagara County Federation of Historical Societies will present its annual congress from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Sanborn Historical Society.

Carol Rogers from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation will start the day off with a presentation about the geology and natural wonders that can be found in this region.

This will be followed by a presentation by Mark Lozo, education director of the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site. He will present his program “1901 Buffalo, Birthplace of a New Presidency,” in which he discusses the circumstances leading up to President William McKinley’s assassination and Roosevelt’s inauguration.

Finally, Lorna Czarnota and Merri Lee Debany will portray two women dressed as men fighting in the Civil War, in their “Letter’s Home: Stories of the North and South” program. This presentation was sold-out when they performed it at the History Center in February.

Advanced registration is required. This event is open to anyone interested in local history, regardless of membership status. Tickets are $25 and include a lunch catered by Hoover’s Dairy. Following the program, guests can enjoy a tour of the Sanborn Farm Museum. For more information, call The History Center at 716-434-7433 or call Rosemary Miller at 716-778-4321.
