Spectrum Health receives grants to for COVID-19 needs & housing program

Spectrum Health and Human Services, an Office of Mental Health and Office of Addiction Services and Supports Housing provider and certified community behavioral health center was recently awarded $546,430 from the City of Buffalo Emergency Solutions Grant-CV to launch a Housing Empower Empowerment Program, $449,369 from Erie County Emergency Solutions Grant-CV, and a $86,937 grant from the WNY COVID-19 Community Response Fund.

City of Niagara Falls installs drop box for parking violation fines in response to COVID-19

In response to COVID-19 guidelines, the City of Niagara Falls is installing a drop box at the entrance of the Municipal Court Building, at 1925 Main St., for parking violation fines. This is an effort to decrease foot traffic at the city's court house.

Programs will offer molecular (PCR) COVID-19 testing administered to students, faculty and school staff by WellNow professionals. In coordination with Cornell University's Animal Health Diagnostic Center, the New York State Department of Health and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services, the Erie County Department of Health will participate in a wildlife vaccination program for rabies using airdrops to deliver vaccinated bait beginning the week of Aug. 10.
Niagara, Erie counties complete joint Tonawanda Creek Road project

Leaders from Erie and Niagara counties on Thursday cut the ribbon to reopen a section Tonawanda Creek Road in the Town of Clarence that has been closed since 2014. The project is part of the bicounty Tonawanda Creek slope stabilization and roadway reconstruction effort that also includes projects in the towns of Lockport and Pendleton.

At 2:36 a.m. Monday, Niagara County Sheriff's Office Deputy Darryl Kroening was patrolling Niagara Falls Boulevard when he noticed a new Chevrolet Silverado at David Chevrolet, 10225 Niagara Falls Blvd., with stone blocks underneath an axle. After entering lot, Kroening observed a subject running westbound through the lot.

On Monday, Niagara Falls Police Department was alerted of two felony warrants issued from the Pennsylvania State Police for 31-year-old Richard Reiss and 34-year-old Dewayne Shields. Warrant officers located a red, compact, four-door sedan with Pennsylvania plates heading southbound on John B. Daly Boulevard.

Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh announced the that next meeting of the Niagara County Legislature on Tuesday, Aug. 4, will take place in the legislative chamber of the Niagara Courthouse at 7 p.m. The legislature's meeting will be preceded by a public hearing on the Niagara County Community College budget at 6:45 p.m. The legislature has been meeting virtually since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
