Field & Fork Network announced that it has been awarded a four-year, $4.6 million federal grant through the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP), by the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $2.5 billion to renew support to thousands of local homeless assistance programs across the nation. HUD's Continuum of Care (CoC) grants will provide critically needed support to 6,597 local programs on the front lines of serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Local homeless assistance programs in New York were awarded nearly $246 million.

More than $100 million in emergency food assistance also to be distributed in February
The state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) announced all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will see a 15% boost when their regular monthly food benefits are issued, as part of an increase that will continue through June.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the selection of SHoP Architects as the lead designer of the Brockport Loop Pedestrian Bridge over the Erie Canal. Originally announced as part of the governor's State of the State address in January 2020, this new pedestrian bridge in the Village of Brockport represents the first large-scale infrastructure project to begin under the state's "Reimagine the Canals" initiative.

The Council for Older Adults in Niagara County launched a unique project to document the area's cultural history through food. The COA invited all Niagara County residents to submit traditional family recipes to preserve and commemorate their cultural history and honor their loved ones through the creation of a community cookbook. "A Taste of History: Heritage Recipes from Niagara County" will be available for sale later this year for a nominal fee.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced the completion of the Mandela Market's expansion project on the East Side of Buffalo. The $145,000 expansion, at 272 E. Ferry S., was supported by funding from the state's East Side Corridor Economic Development Fund and Buffalo Billion II initiative. It is designed to provide greater access to fresh fruit and vegetables for a neighborhood partially covered by a USDA-designated second standard food desert.
