The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops announced Luke Baecker, CPA, CGMA, a fund administrator at Roofers Local No. 74 / 203 Benefit Funds, has been elected chair of the festival's board of directors. He will lead planning efforts for the 39th annual event, which takes place on July 9-10 along Delaware Avenue and Niagara Square in downtown Buffalo.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday announced the New York Power Authority board of trustees approved economic development awards to three companies that will create 79 new jobs and spur nearly $46 million in capital investments. The NYPA board awarded two Erie County businesses with low-cost hydropower allocations - generated at NYPA's Niagara Power Project in Lewiston - and one St. Lawrence County business with funding through the Northern New York Power Proceeds program.

Ross, U.S. attorney for the Western District of New York, will deliver a talk at Buffalo State College as the 2022 MLK speaker at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, in the Burchfield Penney Art Center's Tower Auditorium in honor of the Rev. On Thursday, New York State Sen. Sean Ryan and Assembly member Kimberly Jean-Pierre announced their plans to fight to restore proposed cuts to library capital funding in the fiscal year 2022-23 state budget. The executive budget proposal released earlier this week would cut library construction aid to $14 million from the $34 million allocated in the FY 2021-22 state budget.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday announced all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for January. All households participating in SNAP - including those already at the maximum level of benefits - will receive a supplemental allotment later this month, bringing in roughly $230 million in federal funding into the state's economy.

On Monday, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz announced the selection of 12 municipal projects for inclusion in the Erie County Consortium 2022 Community Development Block Grant. The application, which will be submitted to the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development for approval, recommends a total Erie County expenditure of $1,462,644.00 for the projects, an investment which will leverage $2,549,497 in local funds and in-kind resources.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski on Monday reminded pistol permitholders that, under the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act (SAFE) of Jan. 15, 2013, they must recertify every five years with the New York State Police. That means those who either received their permit or recertified in 2017 must now recertify by the date of issuance on their permit.

At 11:49 a.m. Sunday, the Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to the 600 block of 16th Street for a possible structure fire. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy flames from the front of the building's first floor. The fire also traveled to the house next door.
