Coaches vs. Cancer 716 Golf Classic to benefit American Cancer Society

Big 4 basketball coaches, Bonaventure greats to participate and help save lives

Division I NCAA coaches from across the state and special guests will participate in the second annual 716 Golf Classic at Bartlett Country Club on Aug. 30. Funds raised from this event will benefit the American Cancer Society in direct support of cancer research, through the Coaches vs. Cancer partnership with the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Coaches scheduled to appear, or play, include: Mark Schmidt of Saint Bonaventure University, Jim Whitesell of Buffalo, Greg Paulus of Niagara, Reggie Witherspoon of Canisius, and Matt Langel of Colgate. Bonaventure Hall of Fame coaches Jim Satalin, Jim Baron and Larry Weise, and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski are also set to appear. Former Bonaventure players J.R. Bremer, Mike Gansey and David Vanterpool will highlight a full field of 36 foursomes during the event. Sal Capaccio of WGR 550-AM is set to emcee the festivities.

 During the event, Coaches vs. Cancer will honor former coach Jim Baron with the Jim Satalin award for his contributions to the program and raising funds and cancer awareness. The event will feature a keynote speech from former St. Bonaventure softball player and current ESPN senior producer Rayna Banks.
