Live music returns to Artpark

Artpark is churning with activity and fresh initiatives that will allow visitors to interact with the public park in new ways. In the face of multiple concert cancellations and postponements, Artpark & Company has been actively developing new and adapted programs designed to bring the community both relief and inspiration, all while practicing social distancing and all COVID-19-related precautions to keep visitors safe at all times.

A team of Let's Goat Buffalo goats has deployed to the campus of iconic Silo City, one of Buffalo's most notable landmarks. The pilot project is aimed at eliminating invasive mugwort and is sponsored by the Western New York Land Conservancy as part of its ongoing effort to develop The Riverline in downtown Buffalo.

Bill Baldwin, a park entertainer for nearly 30 years who played Black Bart - among many roles - in the popular Western shows, proudly said he was shot and fell to the ground in Western Town 28,678 times during his Fantasy Island career. Upon hearing the park was closing, he contacted his friend, Jay Wilcox, a maintenance supervisor at the park for 20 years and now chief operating officer of Empire Adventures Inc. They began brainstorming about what it would take to bring the park back under local ownership and led by a team of former employees.

This will allow veterans who were denied an honorable discharge because of their sexual orientation or gender identity to have their New York state veterans' benefits restored.

The Aquarium of Niagara is preparing to end its COVID-19-related closure this week, as Western New York enters phase four of the "New York Forward" reopening plan. The venue will officially open to the general public on Saturday, July 4, with summer operating hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Over 20 families participated in the VFW Post 313 Youngstown Memorial Day car drive-by remembrance Monday at Universal, Saint Bernard's, Oakland Rural and Old Fort Niagara cemeteries. At each site, veterans got out of their vehicles and offered a salute to their fallen comrades and a wreath was placed at the War of 1812 monument at Old Fort Niagara.
