Glynn and Nikola Tesla set sail to commence the Maid of the Mist's 2021 season - the company's 136th consecutive year of operation. The all-electric, emission-free vessels - the only ones of their kind in the U.S. - will ferry guests to the base of the American and Horseshoe falls, providing them with an iconic experience unlike any other.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced the New York Power Authority's board of trustees approved economic development awards to 23 entities that will support 2,292 jobs across the state - with 870 jobs newly created - and spur more than $580 million in private capital investments. Eighteen entities are receiving awards through ReCharge NY energy allocations, while the remaining five are receiving Niagara hydropower allocations and funding awards to enterprises in Western New York.

The Buffalo Sabres on Friday announced the team will host fans at KeyBank Center four more times during the 2020-21 season. Based on updated guidance from New York state, fans will have additional options for entering KeyBank Center, making it easier to attend the remaining games this season. Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced the start of construction for Heritage Point on the South Aud Block at Canalside in Buffalo. The project includes two approximately 103,000-square-feet mixed-use buildings separated by an open walkway that follows a portion of the historic Prime Slip. Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced the launch of the "Roll Up Your Sleeve" campaign to promote houses of worship of all faiths across the state to sign up as vaccination sites for their communities. On Friday, New York State Budget Director Robert F. Mujica Jr. stated, "At the governor's direction, the Department of Tax and Finance will be extending the New York state income tax deadline to May 17 to align with the federal decision to do the same. This 30-day extension provides New Yorkers still coping with the complications of the COVID-19 pandemic ample time to file. This will shift approximately $6 billion of revenue from April to May, and the state will make any necessary adjustments to cash flow."

The New York State Board of Regents acted on a series of emergency regulations to allow for exemptions to diploma requirements associated with the June and August 2021 Regents examination administrations. With the COVID-19 crisis still affecting the state, and students having varied levels of in-person instruction, the board and the department are, in their word, "taking necessary steps to provide essential flexibility for the state's students, families and educators."
