Calling all chalk artists: Your 2020 Chalk Walk entry could win $500 for Best of Show!

The Lewiston Council on the Arts has taken the KeyBank Chalk Walk competition online!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lewiston Art Festival, originally scheduled for Aug. 8-9, has been canceled. For 36 years, the Chalk Walk competition has been the centerpiece of the event, featuring teams of students representing schools across Western New York, creating spectacular murals and competing for prizes and bragging rights.

The LCA said, “This year, we’re opening it up to anyone in Western New York and Southern Ontario, and you can compete from the comfort of your driveway, parking lot, path or park! Nature, music, animals, hobbies, books, sports … anything can be the inspiration for your mural.”

Guidelines and instructions can be found on the LCA website (https://artcouncil.org/) and on its Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/lewistonartscouncil/).

Once your creation is completed, take a photo and email it with your application. The deadline to submit is Monday, July 20.

Judges will select the Best of Show winner ($500 prize), while the People’s Choice Award ($250) will be determined by online voting. All submissions will be posted on the LCA Facebook page.

At 4 p.m. Saturday Aug. 8 – the time winners would be announced at the Art Festival – the LCA will announce the winners on Facebook.
