Hochul updates COVID-19 guidance for schools

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday announced updated coronavirus guidance that aligns with new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations as children, teachers and faculty across the state prepare to head back to school in the coming weeks.

Nearly 100 reenactors and a nationally known historian will gather at Old Fort Niagara on Labor Day weekend to bring the War of 1812 to life. Richard V. Barbuto, who is both a retired Army lieutenant colonel and a Ph.D., will discuss the Battle of New Orleans at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3.

Congressman Brian Higgins on Monday joined the families of Flight 3407 for events in Washington, D.C., marking the 12th anniversary of President Barack Obama signing the Airline Safety and Federal Aviation Administration Act of 2010. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the launch of a new public awareness campaign on treatment options for people who test positive for the coronavirus and have symptoms. The approximately $1 million awareness campaign will run in English and Spanish across TV, radio and digital media, encouraging New Yorkers to test early for COVID-19 and treat it as soon as possible if they test positive.

Today's national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $4.68, down 13 cents from last Monday, and down 12 cents since reported last Tuesday. One year ago, the price was $3.14. The New York state average is $4.80, down 9 cents since last Monday. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.20.
