Registration is open for the annual William Mattar “Pencils 4 Schools” program.

With school budgets decreasing, many teachers purchase supplies for their students with their own money. The William Mattar “Pencils 4 Schools” program helps lessen this financial burden for teachers.

Organizers said, “We encourage and support local educators and students to achieve their academic goals. Having enough school supplies on your first day is a great way to start.

Teachers located in the Western New York area may register online at WilliamMattar.com to receive one box of 250 pencils for their classroom. Teachers who register must be present to pick up pencils between 10 a.m. and noon Saturday, Aug. 27, at the William Mattar, P.C., principal office located at 6720 Main St., Williamsville.

Mattar said, “Teachers have had to adapt quickly and often to the changes in a post-COVID world. It seems more and more teachers are purchasing school supplies for their students with their own money. The William Mattar ‘Pencils 4 Schools’ program helps to alleviate some of this burden for teachers, and helps students get ready for classes by providing them with a basic classroom tool – a pencil.”

Registration is online only and will remain open until all spots are filled. Space is limited, and one must preregister to attend. For more detailed information, or to register, visit William Mattar 2022 Pencils 4 Schools.

Organizers said 2 million pencils have been donated to teachers and students through the community program.
