Congress members Brian Higgins and Chris Jacobs are calling on the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) to send investigators to the scene of fatal airplane crash in Genesee County. The Western New York leaders made the request in a letter to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) administrator and NTSB chairman.

Niagara Area Habitat for Humanity is hosting a one-of-a-kind Habitat ReSale pop-up store from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at its new office location. Funds raised will help Habitat for Humanity build homes for families in need (and keeps extra building supplies and home furnishings out of landfills). Items for sale will have been donated to the pop-up store and are then sold to the community at a fraction of retail price.

A special youth-only pheasant hunting weekend will be held in Western New York on Oct. 10-11, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced. It's fall, and influenza (flu) season is here again. The flu is a respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat and lungs. The virus spreads mainly from person to person through droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. The virus also may spread when people touch something with flu virus on it and then touch their eyes, nose or mouth. Flu can cause severe illness, hospitalization and death. Anyone can get the flu, and serious problems can occur at any age.
