Hochul establishes office of chief disability officer

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday announced the establishment of the Office of the Chief Disability Officer to advocate on behalf of persons with disabilities. She appointed Kimberly T. Hill as the state's first chief disability officer.
NYS: Nearly $2 billion in wagers over first 30 days of mobile sports wagering

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the successful launch of mobile sports wagering in New York state, with nearly $2 billion in wagers taken during the first 30 days of operation. Her team said, "This record-breaking success, more than any other state has ever reported, will generate more than $70 million in tax revenue for New York state, providing funds to be allocated toward programs that support education, youth sports, and more."
First Free Fishing Weekend of 2022

Morinello hosts 'Valentines for Seniors'

DiNapoli: Local sales tax collections up 19% in 2021

Local government sales tax collections totaling $19.6 billion increased by 19.1%, or $3.1 billion, in 2021 compared to last year, according to a report released this week by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. This was the highest annual increase on record after a historic low in 2020 when local sales tax collections declined by 10%. Annual growth in 2019 was 4.7%.
$230 million in additional food assistance for New Yorkers in February

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced all New Yorkers enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive the maximum allowable level of food benefits for February. All households participating in SNAP - including those already at the maximum level of benefits - will receive a supplemental allotment later this month, bringing in roughly $230 million in federal funding into the state's economy.

In 2021, 25 million Americans received the credit, however it is estimated 20% of eligible taxpayers - about 6 million people - failed to claim the benefit.

Providence Farm Collective awarded major grant to develop farmers market on Buffalo's west side

Providence Farm Collective (PFC) has received a $477,000 Farmers Market Promotion Program grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). With this funding, PFC will create a farmers' market on Grant Street, in the heart of Buffalo's west side, where many of their farmers live. The market will be open from the end of June to October, and it will serve the Black community and refugees from Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Ethiopia, Myanmar and Liberia.

Niagara County offering golf discount in Yeager's honor
