New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs administered the oath of office to newly elected Grand Island Fire Co. officers on Saturday, Jan. 12, at fire headquarters. New York State Sen. Chris Jacobs made public today a letter he sent to Gov. Andrew Cuomo formally requesting the governor make full restoration of Aid and Incentives to Municipalities Funding as part of the executive's 30-day budget amendments. The senator was joined by local elected officials from across the 60th Senate District who supported his call for the restoration.

In basketball terms, when Niagara-Wheatfield and Grand Island stepped onto the hardwood inside N-WHS Tuesday night, the teams were battling to improve their record in the Niagara Frontier League and gain points for the sectional playoffs. As important as a win was, though, Tuesday night was a lot more than basketball.
The Falcons and Vikings joined in the 2019 Hoops for Hope game, which was played in honor of a friend close to each school's heart - Julie Neville.

On Friday, Sept. 28, team members from the Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar of Batavia took part in National Good Neighbor Day by volunteering at the Mercy Flight Batavia Airport, the not-for-profit provider of emergency and non-emergency air and ground medical transport and supporting services. The Applebee's staff preformed land maintenance for the airport to provide a well-kept, safe place for the EMS services to perform their duties.

Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns announced the creation of "Honoring the Fallen," the newest initiative in the Erie County Clerk's S.A.L.U.T.E.S. (Showing Appreciation, Loyalty, and Unity Towards Erie County Servicemembers) program. This initiative is designed to give discounts from local businesses to the mothers, fathers and spouses of Erie County soldiers who have been killed in action.
