Representatives from the leading tourism and entertainment venues in downtown Niagara Falls came together Thursday to outline all that residents and visitors can see, experience and enjoy this summer. Destination Niagara USA, Old Falls Street, USA, Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino, and Niagara Falls State Park held a special joint media conference to announce the extensive list of entertainment and activities taking place this summer.

Re-enactors representing the American colonists and British loyalists during the American Revolution will converge on Old Fort Niagara the weekend of June 3 and 4 for a large-scale living-history event that involves camps, mock battles and interactive demonstrations for visitors.

As the rain flowed Friday in the Village of Lewiston, crowds of people flooded into the tented area of the Smelt Festival. A light shower couldn't deter visitors from coming up to the waterfront and supporting the Niagara River Anglers Association. Under cover, they were quickly able to catch free (paper) boatloads of the tiny, fried fish, and listen to the sounds of 90 West.

The Buffalo Superhero 5K Race and Wellness Walk, the first and largest race/walk in Western New York dedicated to mental health awareness, will return once again at St. George's Church in Delaware Park at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 9. For over four decades, Artpark has been a unique destination for new and experimental statements of art, nature and performance. In keeping with that idea this summer, Artpark & Company has announced a concert featuring two visually stunning outdoor spectacles: William Close & The Earth Harp Collective, and "Big Bang" by the French performance group Plasticiens Volants. The show will conclude the 2017 season on Saturday, Sept. 2.

Macerich's Fashion Outlets Niagara Falls USA recently held its third annual Earth Day Dumpster Mural contest, in partnership with Guard Contracting Corp. The contest featured artwork from two local schools demonstrating their vision of Earth Day. Students created murals on Dumpsters in the Military Road parking lot.

Pegula Sports and Entertainment on Wednesday joined Labatt USA to announce development plans for 79 Perry, which was purchased by PSE earlier this year. The more than 70,000-square-foot building, constructed in 1919 as a manufacturing plant, will be redeveloped into a mixed-use facility that includes retail, commercial and residential space.

Artpark fans received welcomed news on Monday, as Artpark & Company announced a return engagement with Tears for Fears. The band will perform in the Outdoor Amphitheater on Wednesday, June 14. Tickets, starting at $17, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.

Deputy Treasurer Edward Walker had welcome news for the Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees on Monday. Thanks to an increase in property assessments, trustees can maintain the current tax rate - $7.38 per $1,000 of assessed valuation - and use less of the municipality's reserves.

On Thursday, the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission board officially announced the selection of Kenneth N. Bieger to succeed Lew Holloway as the organization's next general manager, effective May 1. Bieger currently serves as chief financial officer for the NFBC and brings more than 35 years of professional management experience to the general manager position.
