Food Bank of WNY: Community's help needed to 'Check Out Hunger'

Western New Yorkers will be able to help feed hungry families in the community while shopping for groceries throughout the month o February. Customers of Dash's Market, The Market in the Square, Tops Friendly Markets and Wegmans Food Markets will have the option to add $2, $3, or $5 to their grocery bill to support the Food Bank of Western New York's 25th annual "Check Out Hunger" campaign.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday announced the grand opening of the new, $37 million DoubleTree Hotel by Hilton in downtown Niagara Falls. The project, which included the demolition of a portion of the former Fallside Hotel and Conference Center, along with the renovation of a four-story section of the building, connects to a newly constructed nine-story tower.

Joseph Cecconi, a native of Youngstown, competed on Team USA for the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Hockey Tournament in Montreal. He was one of 23 players from around the U.S. who competed, and brought home the gold by defeating Team Canada in a final 5-4 shootout victory on Jan. 5.

Western New York Land Conservancy aims to restore Niagara Gorge

The Western New York Land Conservancy has just secured almost $1 million for the new "Restore the Gorge" project. Funding comes from the Niagara River Greenway Ecological Standing Committee, and will be used to begin ecological restoration work in one of the most important natural places in the world: the Niagara Gorge.
