New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) Commissioner Roberta Reardon on Friday issued an order accepting the recommendation of the Farm Laborers Wage Board to lower the current 60-hour threshold for overtime pay to 40 hours per week by Jan. 1, 2032, allowing 10 years to phase in the new threshold.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a record $150 million in capital funding will be available for arts and culture organizations through the New York State Council on the Arts' Capital Projects Fund. The "Spirit of Victory", a sculpture sited at Joseph Davis State Park, is in need of repair. The statue, by artist Tom Mullany, was originally part of a larger installation titled "Drums Along the Niagara," created in 1989 when the artist was in-residence at Artpark.

As the blueberry-colored jet boat circled around the Devil's Hole gorge class five rapids, Sandy Dugan began to cry what she called "tears of joy." Strapped in a red lifejacket, gripping the handlebar above her seat cushion, Dugan looked out on the Niagara River from this vantage point for the first time in her 84 years. Taking it all in as the vessel gently rocked up and down, she proclaimed, "This is every bit as exciting as Alaska." As the jet boat picked up steam and ascended its highest crest, Dugan exclaimed, "I'm so glad we did that. It was wonderful!"

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday announced construction is underway on a $21 million renovation project at Kleinhans Music Hall, a world-class arts and culture destination located in Buffalo. The project will upgrade and refurbish the National Historic Landmark and prevent further deterioration. Hochul recently announced $8 million in fiscal year 2023 budget funding for the project, in addition to up to $1 million in grants from Empire State Development.

Trustees in the Village of Lewiston on Tuesday voted unanimously to amend local law 3-2022 and lower the municipal speed limit from 30 mph to 25 mph. They sought to take advantage of legislation signed last month by Gov. Kathy Hochul (A.1007-A/S.2021-A) permitting municipalities to implement such a change.
