Parkway talks begin again

Consultant teams representing the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation; the New York Power Authority; New York State Department of Transportation; and various local stakeholder groups provided insight Tuesday on the future of the Niagara Scenic Parkway in a well-attended public information session at DeVeaux Woods State Park.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced state parks, historic sites, campgrounds and trails operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation saw a record 84.1 million visits in 2023. Total visits statewide surged by nearly 4.7 million, a 6% increase, compared to the previous record year in 2022.

The National Football League announced the NFL Flag Championships, the world's premiere youth football flag tournament, will be hosted on July 19-21, at the Hall of Fame Village in Canton, Ohio. The NFL Flag Championships will feature over 280 teams of girls and boys, NFL Flag regional winners from across the country representing all 32 NFL clubs.

Today's national average price for a gallon of gasoline is $3.15, up 4 cents from last Monday. One year ago, the price was $3.48. The New York state average is $3.28, up 2 cents from one week ago. A year ago, the NYS average was $3.56.
Griffon Brewing opens in Youngstown

Ken Scibetta's and Ed Webster's culinary empire is expanding with the new Griffon Brewing tap room in the Village of Youngstown. The restaurateurs, whose other Griffon locations include Lewiston, Niagara Falls and East Aurora, are taking over a space formerly used as a supermarket.

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. (ECHDC) and Rich Entertainment Group today announced plans for a total eclipse viewing party at the Outer Harbor on April 8. The "Total Eclipse in the 716" free viewing party will be the first event at the renovated Terminal B, which will hold a grand-opening and ribbon-cutting earlier that day.

The Village of Lewiston Board voted Tuesday to rescind prior approval given to the Historical Association of Lewiston to close Center Street on April 8 for an eclipse viewing event. Trustees Tina Coppins and Dan Gibson voted "no," preferring the roadway remain available to HAL for reenactment programming that had been billed, "The Eclipse: A Step Back in Time."
