Lewiston Town Board delves into the budget

Town of Lewiston Finance Officer Martha Blazick got down to the nuts and bolts Thursday on Lewiston's $15.6 million tentative 2016 budget. A work session included going through revenue line items, Highway Department and town clerk's office expenditures, and offering greater clarity on overall management and spending practices.

The Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees unanimously approved a motion Monday to add an additional designation to Columbus Day. Starting this year, the second October Monday will be known as "Indigenous Peoples Day" to honor the local Native American community.

Nearly 200 participated in the seventh annual Jonathon Cote Memorial Motorcycle Ride & Fundraiser, held in Erie and Niagara counties Aug. 2. It is presented each year in memory of Cote, a U.S. Army veteran. He served in Middle East conflicts in the early 2000s and returned as a contractor to Iraq only to be held captive and later killed in 2008.
