Higgins announces $300,000 in federal funding for Launch NY

Congressman Brian Higgins announced a $300,000 federal grant from the Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) for Launch NY, an upstate New York Venture Development Organization (VDO) that supports and invests in high-growth, high-impact companies across 27 New York counties.
Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops donates $2,500 to Food Bank of WNY

The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops announced that the organization donated $2,500 to the Food Bank of WNY through the "Food 2 Families" food and fund drive sponsored in part by Tops Friendly Markets. This donation was made possible thanks to the Taste of Buffalo participating restaurants and the purchases of festivalgoers at the event last July.

Strengthening its position as the area leader in quality and patient safety, Catholic Health has once again earned the region's highest overall score in the Leapfrog Group's fall 2018 hospital safety grade report - and the only "A" grades in Western New York. In the national report released Thursday, Catholic Health hospitals received four of only 12 "A" safety grades that were given in all of New York state.
State Department of Transportation set to hire nearly 500 maintenance workers

New York State Department of Transportation Acting Commissioner Paul A. Karas announced applications are available for approximately 470 positions as permanent and seasonal maintenance staff all across upstate New York and Long Island. Beginning in September each year, the DOT begins to hire and train staff on equipment and best practices, with the aim of having them ready to plow as soon as winter weather begins.

New York State Office of the Attorney General, Enterprise Community Partners Inc. and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) have made funding available across New York state for newly formed land banks. Enterprise is now dedicating additional funding to support land banks, with funds coming from a bank settlement negotiated by the office of the attorney general. Enterprise selected the Niagara Orleans Regional Land Improvement Corp. (NORLIC) as a recipient of a grant in the amount of $500,000.

Steven E. Lipshultz, M.D., Carman and Ann Adams Endowed Chair of Pediatric Research at Wayne State University School of Medicine and Children's Hospital of Michigan, has been appointed the A. Conger Goodyear Professor and chair of the department of pediatrics in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo. He will also serve as the pediatric chief-of-service at Kaleida Health and the medical director, pediatrics services business development, for John R. Oishei Children's Hospital.

The New York Power Authority board of trustees approved power contract extensions that combine to support more than 88,000 jobs throughout the state. The contract extensions also further align the Power Authority's economic development programs with Gov. Fitch Ratings has affirmed strong credit on the New York Power Authority's electric revenue bonds, providing ratings among the highest given to public electric utilities.
