The highly transmissible omicron variant of the novel coronavirus has been detected in Erie County, University at Buffalo scientists and Erie County health officials reported Wednesday. The variant was found in virus samples, analyzed by a UB team that has been sequencing the virus in the region, of Western New Yorkers who tested positive this month.

In accordance with the New York state mandate, the Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bandits and KeyBank Center are updating vaccination policy. Beginning immediately, all guests 5-11 will be required to present proof of at least the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine for entry into all events, concerts, Bandits and Sabres games.

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens donated more than 700 pounds of fresh, organic produce to Gerard Place's Community Kitchen this year. After three years of partnership, the 100% community-funded, organic eco garden at the Botanical Gardens produced the biggest and most diverse harvest to date. This produce helped feed a community of people where the need was three times greater because of the pandemic.
