The New York State Departments of Environmental Conservation, and Agriculture and Markets announced the seventh annual Invasive Species Awareness Week (ISAW) will be held June 7-13. ISAW is an annual educational campaign featuring numerous statewide events focused on invasive species.

Erie County Clerk Michael Kearns released the following statement Saturday: "Today I stand with our county executive and all residents of Western New York to oppose Gov. Cuomo's plan to enlist the National Guard to confiscate much-needed personal protective equipment (PPE) and ventilators from the doctors, nurses, health care workers and residents of upstate and Western New York."

On Friday morning, Gov. Andrew Cuomo pledged to sign an executive order wherein the state can take ventilators and personal protective equipment from upstate New York hospitals and reallocate them to downstate medical facilities. With a higher number of positive COVID-19 cases in the five boroughs, Cuomo said this is where the equipment is needed most right now.

Joining other SUNY campuses across New York, Niagara County Community College has established a student emergency relief fund in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis. This fund is designated to support the highest, short-term financial needs to students currently enrolled at NCCC who are now facing extenuating circumstances related to housing, food, and other vital resources.
Kaleida Health participating in experimental therapies for current patients; local eateries donate food

Eligible COVID-19 patients at Buffalo General Medical Center and Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital will begin participating in a number of FDA-approved experimental therapy options as early as this week. These therapies include a clinical trial of the arthritis medication, sarilumab; convalescent plasma infusions for critically ill patients as a way of introducing antibodies from individuals that have fully recovered from COVID-19; and the use of a promising antiviral medication, Remdesivir.

Appeal Sunday, a decades-long Palm Sunday tradition, would have played out in parishes across the Diocese of Buffalo this weekend. Higgins: Nearly $20 million in COVID-19 emergency funding for Western New York communities

Congressman Brian Higgins announced Western New York will receive over $19.939 million in federal emergency funding to help local communities respond to and recover from the COVID-19 outbreak. The funding was included in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act recently approved by Congress to address urgent public health and economic crisis.

Congressman Brian Higgins, D-NY-26, and his colleagues on the House of Representatives Ways and Means Subcommittee on Social Security requested and won agreement by the U.S. Department of Treasury to automatically provide stimulus checks to senior citizens who are Social Security recipients - reversing course on previous directives that would have required seniors to complete forms to receive the COVID-19 relief payment.
