Niagara County's taxpayers can expect their property tax rates to be reduced to a historic low next year if the budget prepared by County Manager Rick Updegrove and Budget Director Dan Huntington is approved by county lawmakers next month.

The Lewiston Town Board held a Nov. 7 public hearing on its 2020 $18,463,867 preliminary budget. The numbers represent a $336,238 (1.85%) increase over the 2019 budget. However, the plan also shows a projected 0.47% tax decrease.

On Thursday, the E & W G Foundation, a subsidiary of the East Hill Foundation, announced a $500,000 commitment to support construction for the recuperative care unit in the new Buffalo City Mission Community Center at 100 E. Tupper St. The new unit will be named the East Hill Foundation recuperative care unit, and will be housed on the second floor of the new community center.

The New York State Department of Labor today recognized 52 electric workers from the New York Power Authority and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) locals 2104 and 2032 for their participation in a statewide apprentice training program. The clean energy jobs program, now running for two successful years, helps prepare trade and technical workers for jobs in the energy sector supporting Gov. Andrew Cuomo's "Green New Deal," a nation-leading clean energy and jobs agenda that puts New York on a path to carbon neutrality.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul and New York Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Commissioner Erik Kulleseid today showcased 20 shoreline resiliency projects in Niagara and Orleans counties that are receiving an estimated $49 million in state funding through Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's Lake Ontario Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI). The projects were reviewed at a meeting of the Niagara and Orleans REDI Region Planning Committee, which includes local elected officials and other stakeholders.

Legendary musician Billy Joel will make his first appearance in Buffalo in 10 years, appearing at New Era Field at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15. Joel's last appearance in Buffalo was March 9, 2010, with Elton John at KeyBank Center (then HSBC Arena). His last appearance at New Era Field was in 1994.
