Empire State Development announced Buffalo Wire Works Co. will invest more than $5 million for the renovation and expansion of its manufacturing facilities on Buffalo's east side. A global leader in manufacturing screening media and wear parts for the mining, aggregate and industrial markets, the manufacturer will retain 179 employees and create 25 new jobs at its Buffalo locations.

Ciox Health, a company that provides health information management services to providers and insurers across the U.S., is working with its customers, including Catholic Health, to notify patients whose information may have been part of an incident involving unauthorized access to a Ciox employee's email account. About 1,300 hospital and primary care patients in Catholic Health are affected and will be receiving a letter from Ciox in the coming days.

Marking National Vietnam War Veterans Day on Tuesday, Congressman Brian Higgins honored local veteran, Purple Heart recipient, Erie County Sheriff's Deputy and U.S. Army Specialist Roger Dearmyer, who recently passed on Dec. 31. Higgins' team said Dearmyer is "remembered by many as a hero on foreign soil and at home."

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $21 million in funding awards for 15 Youth Assertive Community Treatment teams. New York is the first state in the nation to enact such teams, which serve children ages 10 to 21, and their families, providing services and support in the home and community settings.

Christa Regal has lived on Love Road for eight years. In that period of time, she said her neighbors have been unable to enjoy their backyards because of persistent drainage issues and copious amounts of standing water. "I'm just thankful that I have a raised little concrete patio that I am able to sit on. If it weren't for that little patio, I would have not been able to sit in the backyard at all."

The number of reported coronavirus cases in Erie and Niagara counties has gone up for the first time in several weeks. As of Wednesday, the seven-day average of cases per a population of 100,000 was 8.25%. The seven-day average percentage of positive test results reported over the past three days was 1.86%. One week ago, those numbers were 6.82% and 1.79%, respectively.
