Participating is easier than ever with virtual submissions & gallery

Congressman Brian Higgins is inviting high school students living in the 26th congressional district to participate in the annual Congressional Art Competition. The winning piece from each district is sent to Washington, D.C., and displayed in the Capitol Building.

“In the past, we’ve been inspired by the incredible creativity of talented young artists here in Western New York,” Higgins said. “We encourage students to share their work again this year.”

This year, there is no need to hand deliver artwork. All submissions will be accepted virtually and featured in an online gallery. Simply upload artwork at bit.ly/NY26Art and complete the student release form. The deadline for submission is April 20.

Western New York themed artwork is encouraged, but all original artwork that meet the guidelines are welcome. Submissions will be posted in a virtual gallery on Higgins’ website beginning April 27, with additional viewing opportunities through the congressman’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. The public will have the opportunity vote for their favorite piece until May 4.

Local leaders in the Western New York art community will select the winning piece to be sent to the nation’s capital. The winning student and a guest will also receive complimentary Southwest Airline tickets to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony in June, with other winners from around the country. Additional prizes will be awarded for the first and second runner-up, as well as the top vote earner through the online gallery.
