ECDOH: Ivermectin does not treat or prevent COVID-19

Prompted by urgent warnings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration and the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Erie County Department of Health is highlighting calls for caution against the use of ivermectin for COVID-19 prevention or treatment.

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn warns anyone who is knowingly in possession of a falsified COVID-19 vaccine card - and presents that forged document with the intent to deceive another of their vaccination status - can be charged with a felony offense. This alert comes as some local colleges and universities require students to provide proof of vaccination in order return to on-campus residency and in-person learning.
Splash World opens on Grand Island

Spectrum Health marks International Overdose Awareness Day

Spectrum Health and Human Services says, "The statistics are startling. Here in Erie County, there was a 57% increase in confirmed opioid-related overdose deaths from 2019 to 2020. Nationally, there was a 30% increase. The trajectory for 2021 is not any better: As of July 14, there were 85 confirmed opioid-related deaths, and as many as 75 more once full toxicology reports are reviewed. While tragic, death from overdose is also preventable with education and intervention."

The Erie County Department of Health on Tuesday provided an update on COVID-19 data. For the week ending Aug. 21, ECDOH received reports for 983 new COVID-19 cases among Erie County residents. With a 20% increase from the previous week's total of 811, a steady increase in new COVID-19 cases continues.

Following last week's action by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to amend to the emergency use authorizations (EUAs) for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the Erie County Department of Health will provide a third dose for certain people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised due to a medical condition or receipt of immunosuppressive medications or treatments.

The Buffalo Rotary Foundation funds projects to nonprofit organizations operating within the City of Buffalo primarily serving youth and families. Town Board passes bond resolution for road reconstruction

The Grand Island Town Board Monday night passed a $750,000 bond resolution to fund reconstruction and improvements to various town roads. The resolution, sponsored by Michael Madigan and seconded by Tom Digati, passed unanimously. Councilmember Peter Marston was an excused absence.

The Erie County Department of Health is providing an update on COVID-19 data. For the week ending July 31, ECDOH received reports for 535 new COVID-19 cases among Erie County residents; this is an 80% increase from the previous week's total of 297 cases, and a 10-fold increase in the past six weeks.
With 496 new COVID-19 cases in past 7 days, Erie County experiencing 'substantial' transmission

The Erie County Department of Health has confirmed 99 new COVID-19 cases for July 29, resulting in 496 new COVID-19 cases within the past seven days. Based on The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicators for community transmission, Erie County is now considered to have "substantial" COVID-19 transmission, with a case rate of 54 new cases per 100,000 people in the past seven days.

The soaking rainfall, the blustery winds, and even a tornado warning on July 17 changed Relay For Life, but the event went on as scheduled. The changes included the cancellation of the car show and the fire performance. Survivors were still offered free meals, the basket raffle attracted a crowd, the wheel of chance still spun, and people purchased tickets for the 50-50 raffle.
