Niagara County vehicle pursuit stretches to Grand Island

At 3:38 a.m. Sunday, while on routine patrol in the Town of Niagara, Deputy J. Westmorland observed a vehicle fail to stop at the red light located at Military Road and Porter Packard. Upon attempting to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle fled southbound onto the Interstate 190 at a high rate of speed. The vehicle pursuit continued onto Grand Island, exiting the interstate and traveling through multiple residential streets and town parkways. The pursuit ended at a residence in the 300 block of Orchard Road where the operator fled on foot into the residence.

Further investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year-old-male from Niagara Falls. He was charged with driving while intoxicated (misdemeanor); driving while intoxicated per se – above .08% (misdemeanor); unlawful fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, third degree (A misdemeanor); obstruction of governmental administration, second degree (A misdemeanor); reckless driving (misdemeanor); and numerous vehicle and traffic law charges. The man was remanded to the Niagara County Correctional Facility awaiting arraignment.
