YMCA Buffalo Niagara has unveiled the initial renderings for a planned new Buffalo YMCA Wellness Center.

A press release stated, “This new, 65,000-square-foot YMCA will serve those living in the City of Buffalo and surrounding neighborhoods. The new Buffalo YMCA will be an accessible, central community space where all – regardless of age, ability, background or income level – can participate, connect and thrive for generations to come.”

Renderings for the new site showcase areas of the proposed wellness center, including the lobby, fitness center, climbing wall, gymnasium, aquatics center, and exterior of the building.

The new Buffalo YMCA is estimated to cost $30 million. So far, the Y has received charitable contributions of approximately $12 million, including a $2.5 million gift from the William E. & Ann L. Swan Foundation in December. The organization is currently seeking additional partners “to ensure families in Buffalo have access to critical healthy living and child care programs. Charitable, tax-deductible opportunities are still available, including naming rights for the facility.”

YMCA Buffalo Niagara President and CEO John Ehrbar said, “This project will have a transformative effect in the City of Buffalo and Western New York. We are extremely grateful for our community partners who have delivered behind-the-scenes to make this project a reality.”

Vice President of Community Impact Danielle Roberts added, “The new Buffalo YMCA will have the power to create solutions in our community. It will help reduce health disparities, reduce obesity rates, and ensure health equity in Buffalo and the surrounding areas. We are extremely proud of all of our supporters, and look forward to building more partnerships in our community to take this project to the next level.”
