PrEP aware draws attention to preexposure treatment for HIV

For a third year - and a second year during a pandemic - New York state and Erie County are recognizing Oct. 25-31 as PrEP Aware Week. This observance gives community organizations, health care clinics, schools and public health departments the chance to raise awareness about HIV PrEP. The theme for 2021, "My PrEP," features community ambassadors who are sharing their PrEP story and why PrEP is significant to them.

Organizers will offer Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccine; if supply is available, Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine will be offered to people ages 18 and older.

The Erie County Department of Social Services announced applications for Home Energy Assistance Program regular benefits will be accepted beginning Friday, Oct. 1, approximately one month earlier than usual. This year, in light of continuing coronavirus-related concerns related to public gatherings, ECDSS is strongly encouraging applicants to apply online or to utilize other remote channels to apply. As in previous years, interested applicants are encouraged to apply sooner rather than later.
