The Grand Island Relay For Life Father’s Day Lawnmower and RC Car Races organizers gathered Monday at Grand Island Moose Lodge 180 as planning continues for the 2023 event.

This year’s event is scheduled to take place on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18, along the West River bike path at 3957 West River Road. It opens at 9 a.m. with the Kevin Doring 5K Memorial Walk/Run. The event includes a classic car/bike/truck show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Kids Mower Races at noon. The Mary Dunbar-Daluisio Memorial Lawnmower and RC Car Race follows with class mower races for adults. Trophies will be awarded.

Open to the public, the all-day event will also offer hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages. A cornhole tournament is in the planning stages.

Pictured, Grand Island Town Supervisor John Whitney, left, is joined by Chie and Floyd Doring, Gary Roesch and Mark Lefler, Mary Ehde and Ron Handel.

“Our mission is to surpass last year’s total of just under $7,000,” Ehde said.

She noted this year’s celebrity race would feature Whitney against Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino.

All proceeds benefit Relay For Life.
